Benny Goodman
Goodman (1909-86) was a US jazz/swing musician, bandleader & songwriter. From the mid-1930s to '40s his band was one of the most popular swing big bands in the US.
Goodman's bands started the careers of many jazz musicians. During an era of racial segregation, he led one of the first integrated jazz groups, his trio and quartet.
He received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1986 (the year he died).
